The Giver Trilogy
In The Giver by Lois Lowry, many years into the future from now, young Jonas lives in world that seems peaceful, although it does have quite a few rules, with the parents that he was chosen for and the younger sister that was chosen for his family. He was an eleven that enjoyed the world he lived in for all the eleven years of his life- until the day he became a twelve. After that, Jonas must recieve memories from the mysterious Giver, a wise old man who helps Jonas discover that everything is not as it seems. This story is extremely well-written in the way it is presented, and as you discover things alongside Jonas, this quickly becomes the most powerful book you've ever read. After reading The Giver, the book does not leave your thoughts and the earth as you know it and the world that you live in seem a million times better than they did before you read this book; it leaves you with an amazing appreciation of your life. The story is also a fantastic mystery, and you'll be dying to discover the secrets of this future society. The other books take you into the adventures of two other characters in two different places, but to avoid spoilers those will not be discussed.
Ages: 12-adult
Books: The Giver, Gathering Blue, The Messenger
